Decelerated Realities
Reflections on My Visual Language
Everyday situations and inspiring places with a special atmosphere form the starting point of my artistic work. A courtyard with a ping-pong table, a scene in a café, or a grandmother with a babushka headscarf – experiences, dreams, or memories are transformed through the filter of my imagination into poetic pictorial spaces.
My painting moves at the intersection of reality and dream: it captures fleeting moments of urban everyday life, intertwines them with surreal elements, and creates quiet islands of calm – places where personal memories and stories come alive again.
Many of my works unite seemingly contradictory elements that overlap, permeate each other, and transform into new meanings. Surrealist devices such as metamorphoses or scenes removed from their context generate subtle irritations that invite reflection – and sometimes a smile.
An essential part of my process is playful work with chance and the found: old books or already painted canvases from second-hand shops enter into a dialogue with my ideas. These found objects open a silent exchange with unknown authors – a poetic dialogue across time and space.
I often work with transparent, glazing layers, creating an impression of something fleeting and fluid. In this way I capture moments of appearance and disappearance, preserving the fragile beauty of the transient moment.
For me, painting unfolds within a field of tension that resonates with the quiet intensity of Edward Hopper, the poetic dislocations of Magritte, and the precise visual language of Karin Kneffel – and within this I find my own voice, one that counters today’s visual overload and acceleration with moments of stillness and concentration.
The result is pictorial worlds that invite immersion, where everyone can discover their own stories and memories.
