The air passes through here - an artist's book with perforations

An artist's book with breathing holes that make certain sections disappear. The perforations were used to redact the pages, revealing the layers beneath.

The holes reveal vulnerability on the one hand, and permeability and sensitivity on the other – qualities that make human interaction possible in the first place. They are both omissions that conceal certain areas and points of silence.

The excerpts from Dostoevsky's The Idiot connect to this theme: they tell of the sensitive side of the "idiot," his particular worldview, and the social context.

Conditions of his time – conditions that still seem surprisingly valid today.

The pages offer a glimpse beyond the immediate page, hinting at the next image or text. The photographs and drawings were created over the past five years; the texts are either my own or excerpts from Dostoevsky.

An artist's book with perforations is about permeability and sensitivity is part of the project I'm currently working on. More content to follow...
